Hello, readers.

Just wanted to say that I've added a new page to the web site, titled: Media Spotlight.  There are two links to articles that were written about me.  If you've a few minutes, please click on the links in that section.

Make it a great day.

Hello Readers.

When my publisher (Infinity Publishing, Inc.) informed me that they could now convert my novels into eBook format, I immediately asked to have the necessary paperwork (contracts) emailed.  They responded within hours and I did likewise.

The long wait is over. I'm happy to announce that Of Ghosts and Magic and House of Tarot Cards are now available in eBook format.

No longer will you have to wait for the postal carrier to deliver a book to your mailbox; similarly, you won't have to worry if the Internet book store has the book in stock.  Now, with the click of a button - or two - you can have both books downloaded to your eBook reader in a matter of minutes.

If you haven't already done so, please check the book reviews I've received from readers in the U.S. and Canada.  They liked both stories, and I know you will, too.

Make it a great day.

Hello Readers.

I had the distinct pleasure to be interviewed by Carol Denbow regarding my experience in designing my web site.  The short version is that I had put this on the back burner for about two years.  (To use a phrase often heard in the Navy, "I finally got with the program.")  You can read the full story by going to http://abookinside.blogspot.com/

Click the link.  After you've read my interview, check out the rest of Carol's site.  Lastly, don't forget to tell your friends!

Make it a great day.

Hello Readers.

I've just added a new blog to the web site ... about Friday the 13th.  Some of the folklore about this day is truly amazing and yet it still prevails even in modern times.  You can read the article by clicking on the Blog 2 tab. Enjoy.

Hello Readers.

It's Labor Day, the traditional end of the summer.  Here in Virginia Beach, the annual American Music Festival started Friday evening and wraps up late tonight.  Lots of great music, and for those of us who lived through the 60s - that'd be me - lots of great memories.  I have quite a few.

I just added a new blog (number 3) to the web site, I hope you'll take a moment to read it.

Lastly, I hope you got out and enjoyed the holiday with your family.

Make it a great day.

Hello Readers.

Summer is over and the end of the hurricane season is not to far behind.  Over the past two days, the remnants of a tropical storm have battered us with high winds and lots of rain.  Here in Virginia Beach, the rainfall amount varied from five to seven inches.  This morning, a co-worker told me that one inch of rain is equivalent to one foot of snow.  If what he said is accurate, the city is lucky it was only rain.

You see, we don't get a lot of snow in Virginia Beach.  But when it does snow, it's usually a few inches to less than a foot.  But you'd swear we were hit by a blizzard; most everyone goes into a panic mode.  And to add insult to injury, it doesn't help when city services are shut down due to inclement weather.  To further complicate matters, the number of car accidents drastically increases.  Needless to say, it's a mess.  While I can't remember the last time we had over two feet of snow at one time, I can only imagine what would happen if we had a blizzard that dropped five to seven feet in two days.  Just thinking about it is enough for me to say, "Holy mackerel; we're in trouble now!"

On a lighter note, I just added a new blog (number 4) to the web site.  It's about books.  Jump over to it; I think you'll enjoy this short article.

Make it a great October.

Hello Readers.

The holidays begin in earnest in a few days and what better way to start than by adding a new blog (number 5) about New Year Resolutions.  I hope you'll take a few moments to read it.  Hopefully, it'll make you smile.

And since you're already on the site, please check out the earlier blogs.  My goal is to write something of interest.  And if you like what you've read, please tell your friends and family to check out my web site.  Word of mouth is still the best way to advertise.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving, a Christmas full of smiles and joy, and a safe and prosperous New Year 2011. May laughter cheer your home and happiness brighten your days.

Hello Readers.

The winter has certainly lived up to its reputation so far this year ... like many of you, I can sum it up in two words: It's cold.

We've had more snow in Virginia Beach than normal and there's word of another massive storm that's going to hit the East Coast in 48 hours.  If it stays on the current track we'll be spared the brunt of its wrath, but the folks north of us won't be as lucky.

Wednesday is Groundhog's Day - when we learn if winter will come early.  I won't be surprised to learn that winter will last another six weeks.  But there's always a chance Mother Nature will give us a reprieve.  One can hope, right?

I just added a new blog ... number 6 ... so if you can spare a few more minutes please read the new article.  I'd appreciate it.

Hello Readers.

Sometimes I wonder where the hours go; I had planned on posting a new article six weeks ago, but kept putting it off.  I have a good reason.  I've been working with my editor on my new manuscript.

Yes, a new mystery novel is on the horizon and I'm hoping it'll be ready by the end of summer.  I'll be posting more information about it as soon as it's sent to the publisher.  I hope you'll continue to periodically check my Web site for the latest information.

In the interim, blog number 7 has been posted.

Enjoy the spring weather.

Hello Readers.

The Fourth of July started out like any other summer day - hot and humid.  All that came to an end around 6 p.m. when an extremely loud crack rattled the windows.  Less than a minute later, the sky opened up and we got a heck of a drenching.  It was over in ten minutes, but an hour later it started again.  Needless to say, the fireworks display were postponed one day. Unfortunately, it's been raining on and off all day so I think the city is going to postpone it once again.  However, I do hear some going off in the neighborhood so I guess I'll grab a drink, head outside and watch ... and hope it doesn't rain anytime soon.

A new blog ... number 8 ... has just been posted.  If you've visited my Web page before, thanks for stopping by again.  If you're a first-time visitor - WELCOME.  I hope you'll take a look around, read a blog or two and then bookmark this site for a return visit.

Until the next time, enjoy the summer and be safe.

Hello Readers.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I'm in receipt of the proof copy for A Pocket Full of Voices.  So what does that mean?  As the author, it's my sole responsibility to thoroughly proof read every section of the book (front cover, back cover, spine, all interior pages) and identify any and all changes/corrections.  You might be thinking: "Didn't you proof read it before sending it to the publisher?"  Yes, it was thoroughly checked and rechecked by myself and my editor.  However, Digital Word processing files are dynamic and some formatting variances are normal.  Hence, the reason to proof read the book one final time.  I envision this process will take about a week; perhaps 10 days.  The bottom line is that I'm hoping the book will be ready for prime time by mid-November.  I'll post more information as the final process unfolds.

Make it a great day.

Hello Readers.

The final proof copy for A Pocket Full of Voices was delivered by UPS, yesterday afternoon.  I've been reviewing it since early this morning and I'm happy to say that the new book is ready for publishing.  On Monday, I'll contact the publisher to let them know to expect the signed release form by week's end.  As soon as they receive the release, the book will, initially, be available for sale from Infinity Publishing.  I'll post a link to the publisher's web site as soon as the book is listed.  If you buy your books from Amazon or a national book store, please be aware that it may take two weeks or longer before it shows up on their respective web sites.  If you want to read an excerpt, click the link on the home page.

Make it a great day.

Hello Readers.

It's been a long time coming, but I finally reached the end of the tunnel.  My new mystery novel, A Pocket Full Of Voices has been published.

As of today, the book is only available through my publisher.  It will take about six weeks - give or take - for it to be available through the Internet on web sites such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Target, Books-A-Million, etc., or through special order from your favorite bookstore.

The benefit of ordering through the publisher is that your order will be filled within 48 hours; whereas, a special order can take up to three (3) weeks.

Below is a link to my publisher; when you click the hyperlink you'll be automatically taken to the web page that lists' my book.

The idiom, “The squeaky wheel gets the grease” normally infers that if a person complains loudly enough, they’ll eventually get their way.  However, I’m not complaining – I just want to let people know that there’s a great book out there just waiting to be read.  It's a “G-rated” story that anyone would proudly display on their bookshelf, as well as heartily recommend to others. Please tell your friends, acquaintances, co-workers ... anyone who wouldn't mind reading a book that isn't filled with foul language, etc.  I'd certainly appreciate your help and can't thank you enough for your consideration in doing me this favor.

Make it a great day.

Al

P.S. The publisher is currently working on the conversion to eBook format.  I'll post an update when the eBook is available. Thanks for your patience.

Hello Readers.

A belated Happy New Year to all of you! May the new year bring you much success, but above all good health.

An update on my recently published novel, A Pocket Full Of Voices: it's now available on Amazon, and Barnes and Noble. While there are no reviews on Barnes and Noble, I have received three great reviews on Amazon.  If you've a few minutes, please click the below link to see what readers have said about the new novel.  I think you'll be pleased; I am.

Now that the new novel has been published, I've started a fourth one in this continuing series.  I don't have a deadline to meet so I can't give you a definitive time when I'll complete the manuscript.  That said, I'll periodically post updates on my progress in this forum.

As always, I'd welcome any comments or questions you may have pertaining to any of my novels. You can reach me at af72ma@alfredalbers.com

Hello Readers.

If you read the "Media Spotlight" tab first, you already know about the two recent reviews for my new novel A Pocket Full of Voices.  I'm extremely grateful for the spectacular reviews; it reinforces the notion that the effort I put into writing this novel was time well spent.  Of course, it wouldn't have been possible without the help of a superbly talented editor, and equally talented associates.  I'm honored to have such friends who unhesitantly took time from their busy lives to offer me advice.  I graciously acknowledged their help in the book, but in light of the two new reviews, I again wish to say, "THANK YOU."

If you haven't yet read the reviews, please take a few minutes to do so.  I know you'll like what the reviewers wrote; I did.

Make it a great day.

Hello Readers.

It's been a long time - five months - since I updated my web site.  Here's a short recap of what's been going on.  Shortly after my last update, the clock started clicking for me to either swap over to Microsoft's new program to keep the web site up and running, or find a new host.  I opted to stay with Microsoft, but the drawback was that I had to upgrade to a newer version of Office.  I had had the program for a few months, but I wanted to load it on a new computer and I couldn't decide whether to go with a laptop or a desktop.  I finally bought a new desktop, got it up and running and loaded the new Office program.  That's when the fun took over: backing up the contents of the web site to a flash drive and then figuring out how the new web site program works.  I burned the midnight oil and got it up and running within a week, and then started tweaking it, time permitting.  Of course, other projects always seem to fall from the sky and something has to give.  And that was the web site.  I'm back.  And I'll try to be a little more attentive to posting something a little more frequently.

Make it a great day.

Hello Readers.

I'm happy to share with you another outstanding review; this one from Readers Favorite.

Reviewed by Anne B. of Readers Favorite.
"A Pocket Full of Voices" is Alfred M. Albers' third novel in the 'John Michaels series'.  Albers creates a sense of urgency and desperation in "A Pocket Full of Voices".  The suspense quickly builds and the twists and turns keep the reader guessing all the way to the end.  Albers is a professional magician with 35 years of study and experience under his belt.  He utilized his knowledge in developing his lead character, John Michaels.  Albers' characters are realistic. "A Pocket Full of Voice " is a well-written, entertaining, suspense-filled mystery that will keep readers eagerly turning pages.  I suggest the reader curl up next to a warm fire with a pot of fresh brewed tea on a cold snowy winter day while reading this book.  Why you may ask . . . you will not want to lay this book down even long enough to walk to the kitchen for a refill.  Alfred M. Albers is a talented author and one you will want to add to your list of mystery writers."

I'm extremely grateful that Anne B., at Readers Favorite, recommended that her readers add my name to their list of mystery writers.  As an unknown writer, not only are those words are very encouraging, they also reinforce in my mind that my choice to NOT RESORT to using foul language and inappropriate scenes was the right thing to do.  (All three of my books are suitable for everyone: teens, adults, and the clergy.)

So if you're willing to give a new writer a chance - please consider my novels.  The books are available in paper format, as well as eBooks for just about every type of eReader.

Thanks for your consideration.

Make it a great day.

Hello Readers.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends.

It seems that Autumn weather - in Virginia Beach - has been a mix of summer and winter.  Case in point: this weekend.  It's slated to be in the high 60s; however, the first two days of the coming week will have temperatures in the 70s.  Go figure.  I wouldn't be surprised if trees that have already gone into hibernation may attempt to bloom.

I've just posted a new blog ... number 10.  I hope you'll take a few moments to read it.  And if you'd like to share something from your own "bucket list," please drop me a line.

Hello Readers.

An unknown author - no, not me - wrote, "A New Year's resolution is something that goes in one year and out the other."  He (or she) was right.  I've made and discarded quite a few, myself, over the years.  So here's a suggestion to think about: make a resolution to do something that you would enjoy doing.  For example, reading a book written by an unknown author.  You never know, you just may find this person's writing to be fresh ... and enjoyable.  And if that unknown author you choose happens to be me ... THANK YOU for taking a chance on my humble attempts to write a "G-rated" mystery story.

Wishing you all the best for 2013.

Make it a great year!

Hello Readers.

Here it is March 2 and in Virginia Beach we still have cold weather.  Not as much as the good folks up north, but cold nevertheless.  Makes me wonder if the groundhog sent a garbled email about an early spring arrival, last month.

I've just posted Blog 11 ... it's amazing what you find at a garage sale.  If you've a few minutes, I'd be delighted if you would check it out.

Wishing warmer weather ... soon ... make it a great month!

This morning, at exactly 3 a.m., a feature article that I wrote ("Red Card, I Win; Black Card, You Lose") was published on the web site www.bloggingauthors.com.

I was going to post this particular feature article on my web site, but when I read the aforementioned site was accepting items for publication, I knew it was the right place for it.  I hope you'll click the above link and check it out.

As we inch closer to Mother's Day, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all Mothers for everything they do for their family, all year round.  I hope "your day" is one of relaxation and pampering.

Hello Readers.

Modern technology is great ... it is ... but sometimes "Murphy's Law" gets in the way.  Case in point: my Web site.  For a few months, my host server had been keeping me - and every other user - apprised of a forthcoming major upgrade.  Mine happened earlier this month and I gave it no other thought.  Why?  I was sure it was simply a seamless transition for the users.  It was ... to a point.  The short version is that a specific URL needed to be renamed.  Unfortunately for me I didn't learn this until Father's Day, just as I was ready to post a new blog.

Now that I was behind the eight-ball, it was time to do my homework.  My Internet searching revealed similar user issues and an equal number of answers.  However, some users, after trying the suggestions, still had problems.  It didn't take long for me to realize that the best route would be to go to the source: the host server.  I stated the problem and within 24 hours received the answer I needed.  It took my son, a network administrator, all of three minutes to rename the URL and then verify the fix worked.  It did.  And so, I'm back in the saddle once again.  Modern technology is great ... it is ... as long as "Murphy's Law" doesn't get in the way.  But it also helps if you're really computer savvy.

A belated Happy Father's Day to all the Dad's.

Have a wonderful summer and a safe July 4th holiday, everyone.

Make it a great day!

Hello Readers.

Ten days until Christmas ... and counting.  Where did the year go?  For me, it seems that once the Memorial Day holiday arrives, the months come and go rather quickly.

It's still Autumn, but the cold weather that has hit most of the country this week makes it seem like late January/early February.  Brrr!

I've just posted another article ... lucky blog number 13 ... about style.  I hope you'll take a moment to read it, and as long as you're there, please read a few of the other articles.  I had planned on posting one in time for Halloween, but it still needs some editing so it'll have to wait until 2014.

Wishing you a wonderful Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year 2014.

Make it a great day!

Hello Readers.

As a youngster, I always heard that "March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb."  I never understood its meaning, but when you're young those sayings are not something high on the priority list.  Street games such as skully, Johnny-on-the-pony, 2-hand touch football, and stickball, to name just a few ... that terminology is something I did understand.

It's been a brutally cold winter and like many others, I'm hoping this is the last winter weather storm this year.  The local television stations have said that it's been four years since we've had this much snow.  Could have fooled me!  I'm ready for spring and warmth.

I've just posted another blog, number 14, and I hope you'll take a moment to check it out.

Make it a great day!

Hello Readers.

In January 2015, I mailed the manuscript for what will be the fourth novel in the John Michaels saga, to my editor.  I started writing the fourth story in January 2012 and finished the first draft twenty months later.  After a short break, the hard part began: editing.  Twelve months later, I completed the third revision and I rewarded myself with a two-week reprieve.  However, two weeks turned into three weeks, only to become four weeks.  The extra time was what I needed; the fourth revision became the final draft.  I did a final spell check, printed a fresh copy for my editor, boxed it up and then mailed it.  Time will tell how much I've helped, or hindered, my editor by doing my own exhaustive editing.

I've just posted another blog, number 15, and I hope you'll take a few moments to check it out.

Enjoy the spring weather, and make the days memorable!

Hello Readers.

In May, my editor returned the final draft manuscript along with a handwritten note telling me that she enjoyed the story and it kept her engaged.  That was music to my ears.  There were a few things that needed correcting; however, it was nothing major.  With that process completed, it was time to focus on creating a book cover.  After some research--what I learned is that "less is more"--it was time to create an initial sketch.  I spent about five weeks trying different outlines and fonts.  I'm happy with the final product and hope that it draws a prospective buyer's attention.

Two days ago, after conversing with my publisher, I electronically sent the needed files to Infinity Publishing.  The conversion process--where they take my files and create a paperback book--will take 6-8 weeks.  With that process completed, I'll get a proof copy in the mail for a final review.  Once I sign the release authorization, the book will appear on the publisher's website about two days later.  Shortly that, it'll be available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and other bookstore's websites.  The last step in the publishing process will be the conversion of the publisher's files to an eBook format.  I'll post an update as things unfold.

I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe Fourth of July holiday.  Enjoy the rest of the summer.

Make it a great day!

Hello Readers.

A quick note to say that my new novel, The Last Goodbye has been published.  Currently, it's only available as a paperback; however, my publisher has assured me that it'll be available as an eBook in a few days.  Click the tab with the book's title to read Chapter One.

I hope everyone had a wonderful summer; I did.  My two grandsons spent their summer with me.  I don't know who was more tired - them or me - after countless weekends at the amusement parks in Virginia and Pennsylvania.  I'm looking forward to the summer of 2016 with the hope that they'll return for another summer visit and some more road trips.

Until next time,

Make it a great day!

Al

Hello Readers.

First let me wish all the fathers a "Happy Father's Day."

A week after my last posting, my fourth novel, The Last Goodbye, appeared as a eBook on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and iTunes.  I received a lot of emails congratulating me on the new story, and positive comments about the story I crafted.  Like any author, I can only hope that readers will post reviews.  All things considered, I'm happy with the emails.

I took some time off from ... okay a bit more than I planned ... but I soon began research for a new novel, wrote notes and some dialog.  My plan is shaping up rather nicely and I hope to earnestly begin writing in September.  With any luck, I'll have the initial draft finished and ready for the first round of editing in September 2018.

Until next time,

Make it a great day!

Al

Hello Readers.

First, I've just posted a new Blog - Number 17 - I hope you'll take a couple of minutes to read my story about "The Gift."

Next, as I wrote back in June, I've been doing research for the new novel and as the remaining weeks of summer draw to a close, so does the research.  I've been debating when, in September, to start writing and have decided that September 22nd is the date.  Why that day?  A new season (Autumn) begins, so why not a start a new novel.  I'm not sure how long it'll take, but based on my last four novels, each one took about a year.  Why so long?  I have a day job so my writing is done in the late evening hours.

Until next time,

Make it a great day!
